In 2002, Christine presented her mom a leather bound journal. Over the next five years Winnie would return the gift a hundred fold by filling it from cover to cover.

Here is the account of her life and times, written by Winnie Apple Newton (1926-2014). From her childhood on a Depression-era North Carolina tobacco farm through college years during World War II, raising a family while balancing the demands of being a minister’s wife, losing the love of her life and learning to navigate the events and changes of a new century on her own, and bravely coming to terms with the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. She wrote it all down so that it might be remembered.
